AWR Poland Update

This month the Polish Voice of Hope, an Adventist World Radio (AWR) studio, was visited by Kent Sharpe, the AWR Vice President for Finance, and Vasili Makarchuk, the AWR Europe Region Director. “It was a very interesting meeting. We were able to exchange professional experience gained through evangelism. It was thanks to the AWR that in 1980 the Advent message reached Poland for the first time via radio waves. We are extremely grateful for that. Since then, this activity has been continued by the Church in Poland and we value this type of ministry very much,” says pastor Ryszard Jankowski, the Polish Union Conference President.

Both the visitors and the local media team agreed that the radio ministry should not be neglected. On the contrary, it should be developed with the help of the latest digital communication technologies. Currently, AWR Poland broadcasts it programs through the public Polish Radio as part of church-state agreement. The programs attract a multi-million audience annually. Recently, the Adventist editorial staff received recognition from the public broadcaster for “providing quality content and maintaining high ethical standards of journalistic work”. AWR Poland also operates 24/7 online radio that can be received on desktop computers and also on mobile devices through the Online Radio Box app. The Polish podcasts are also regularly posted on the awr.org website.

The dream of the Adventist radio broadcasters in Poland, which was shared with the representatives of the global AWR, is to create their own FM station. “This extraordinary meeting inspires us and motivates us even more to spread the Gospel through the air. We are certain that the end of time is near. That is why in our programs we want to focus on Jesus and the proclamation of His imminent return,” says Jan Kot, the content editor for the Voice of Hope Adventist Media Centre.

A noteworthy initiative of the media centre was the publication of 100 radio broadcasts on a DVD on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of regaining independence by Poland. The disc was attached to the Signs of the Times monthly sold in the largest press shops in Poland and presented independently to high state officials. This anniversary production testifies to the contribution of the Seventh-day Adventist Church to the spiritual, cultural and social life of the Polish nation. Because in every country the Voice of Hope radio is more than just a radio.
Next year, the Voice of Hope will celebrate the 40th anniversary of its existence.
