On September 3, 2013, AWR welcomed international and local guests to a rededication ceremony at our shortwave station on Guam, marking the completion of a major upgrade of the facility.
The enormous project was completed in record time – only two years. It involved relocating one of the station’s existing 250-foot towers to accommodate the replacement of a low-frequency antenna with a higher-frequency one. (Each antenna is approximately the size of two football fields.) The second phase focused on erecting a new tower and adding a new high-frequency curtain antenna.
The ultimate goal of the undertaking was to enable AWR to improve our broadcasts across Asia by transmitting over frequencies that better reach our target audiences. As well, the station is now able to schedule simultaneous broadcasts to multiple countries … reaching listeners during their respective peak listening times.
AWR currently transmits programs for 287 hours/week across Asia from this station, in 34 languages. Countries include China, North Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and more.
“We thank our supporters many times over for the passion and commitment they continue to show for AWR’s ministry,” says AWR president Dowell Chow.
